Gallery Talks & Teaching

Art History Courses

My seven years' experience as an in-gallery teacher has given me the opportunity to develop visitor-centered lesson plans and teach in-depth art history courses.

Typically, my courses included a formal slide lecture followed by an in-depth gallery talk. Object-based teaching and VTS methodology were central to the gallery discussion and helped exemplify and reinforce the earlier slide lecture through primary sources.

Past course topics:

o Italian and Northern Renaissance Art
o Picasso & Rivera: Conversations Across Time (LACMA exhibition)
o The Art of the Grand Tour
o Reigning Men: Fashion in Menswear (LACMA exhibition)
o Baroque Art
o Medieval through Renaissance Art
o The Life and Art of the English Country House

Gallery Talks & Tours

My lesson plans focused on facilitating conversation and engagement amongst the group to lead to deeper connections and understanding. I often utilizing VTS to focus on individual works of art and facilitated group discussions to uncover observations about the object. Past talks/tours include:

o Found in Translation: Design in California and Mexico, 1915-1985 (LACMA exhibition)
o The European Cathedral
o The Golden Age of Dutch Art
o Picasso & Rivera: Conversations Across Time (LACMA exhibition)
o Decorative Arts of the Kunstkammer
o European Baroque Art
o Northern Renaissance Art
o The European Cathedral
o The Ancient Roots of Neoclassicism
o French Impressionism
